America's Frontline

Departs from Pier 17, South Street Seaport. Sights include the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Fort Wadsworth, Governors Island & Castle Clinton.

Since the time of the Dutch settlers, the harbor's role as a great commercial port has made it a prize, as well as a target that needs to be defended. This tour takes you on a journey through four centuries of harbor defense, from the building of the first fortifications on the inner-harbor to the Cold War Nike Missile sites of Sandy Hook and the Rockaway Peninsula.

Produced with music and sound effects, The Military History of New York Harbor tour features commentary from Ken Jackson, historian and author of The Encyclopedia of New York City; military historians, Jack Green and Steve Jaffe; and national park rangers among others.
